This home is a retreat created for a New York City family. The house and its landscape together form an environment that is removed from the outside world but that also embraces and is connected with its natural surroundings. The house and its surrounding landscape are conceived and designed as an integrated whole, the interior living spaces and the exterior landscape are experienced as one.
The Dining Room, Living Room and exterior grass plinth are all connected to each other. The pool and its grass surround are part of the architecture, differentiated from the sloping and more random natural landscape by its level plain, stone edge, and its connections to the dining and living room. The materials of this exterior space: natural plants, grasses and stone walls, link it with the broader landscape outside.
